The Long Journey

We went to Our grandparents house (who live 2 1/2 hours away from us)  to show off the baby, since they hadn't seen our handsome little dude yet. :)
Lots of family were there too! And we were all having a great time!
Until...

The little monster emerged from that cute and cuddly baby!

Which happened to be... when? Just as we were taking off to go home.
So we stop at a gas station before getting on the highway, double check his diaper and i tried to feed him. But that didn't work.

Then we take off with me in the backseat, singing until I had no voice and doing everything I could to keep him happy, and it was working too! But then after an hour of making up my own words to songs from phantom of the opera he lost interest.
All he wanted to do was fall asleep.
And the crying began again... I even tried singing his favorite song ("Stay Awake" from "Mary Poppins"). Only it was more like I hummed the whole thing cause I don't know the words. It always puts him to sleep when he's tired, but not this time... Maybe I shouldn't be singing a song with the title "Stay Awake"...

So we pull over to a rest stop and pull our crying baby out of his car seat to calm him down.  Well. I get him to sleep with a clean diaper, some num nums, and some rocking and burping. Then... it was time to get him in that seat with all those safe, but noisy buckles...

I gently place him in there and try to get those impossible straps around his tiny, little arms and yes...
he woke up and started crying.
So I do everything all over again with no luck at all.

We then decide that we would never get home unless we just let him cry it out... So we head towards home with a crying baby and my face in a pillow and my husband just trying to keep his eyes open with his best friend "Mt Dew".
Needless to say, we were all just crabby and tired and dying for sleep!
Soon enough though our little boy gave up his protest and fell asleep, as did his crabby Mother eventually, leaving their tired daddy to fight his sleep on the hypnotizing highway.

So we finally made it home at 12am and still had to get ready for bed.
